The Crusades were a success. The crusades were a good thing beacuase they connected much of the major empires. Throughout the crusades, merchants florished when trading with others. Christian merchants brought back different foods, spices, cloth, and other goods to Europe. The building of sturctures changed. Muslim archietects changed the way Europeans built castels. I think that the Crusades have had both a positive and negative effect on history. They were all bad in some ways, because a lot of people were killed from the Christians, Muslims, and Jews. The Christians definitely were closer to the positive side, they had so many good things come out of the Crusades. For one thing, they were able to have new foods, cloth, and spices, from travelling to other places. Another way the Christians benefitted was because they were part of the Catholic Church, and the Catholic Church gained wealth and power from the Crusades. The Muslims had somewhat of a positive effect, they ended on better terms with the Christians. But they had not so good effects, too. They lost the Iberian Peninsula because of the Crusades. I personally believe that the Jews had the worst end of the stick when it came to the Crusades. They were killed, or captured as prisoners and slaves. The Christians acted terribly towards the Jews, they believed they could exterminate them because they "killed God's son." A lot of Jews lost their homes, families, property, and lives because of the Crusades. So as you can see, the Crusades had pretty positive effects on the Christians, pretty good on the Muslims, and not so great for the Jews. Except for the fact that all three religions lost many lives because of the Crusades.

After the crusades were over it left a bumch of different impacts on the Christains, Jews, Muslims, and even on the world. i think that over all the crusades left both a positive and a negative effect opon the world. a couiple of way that it left a negative impact on the world is that many of the Christains, Jews, and Muslims had died from either battle, disease, and massacres. this had an effect on the world because at the time those were the three main religions. also the crusades were led almost all of Europe and even some of the middle east. the crusades also left an impact on the everyone who fought to gain the holy land. the pepole fought to gain the holy land for either, land, fame, money, or riches. this changed the on how the world thought about crusades and what the fights were for. buit the crusades also had some positive effects too. such as it lead to more trading which had much more to offer. this had an effect by showing people more resources than what they already had, like other spices such as pepper. the crusades also showed the religions new kinds of warfare weapons, other tjhan just swords. overal the Christains and Muslims had mostly good effects from theses crusades while the jewews didn't have as much of a good effect.

The crusades had both positive and negative effects on society. Because the crusades were mainly religious, the three different groups that were fighting were the Christians, Muslims, and Jews. To see if the crusades had positive or negative effects, you have to look at it from three different points of view. For the christians, the crusades had mostly positive effects, but there were a few negative effects that did weaken them. Some positives were that the crusades helped the christians spread Christianity throughout most of Europe and parts of the middle east; and many economic advances occured in Europe that created new opportunities for people to invest and have new choices of jobs. Some negatives that the Christians encountered were the monarchs having to create more taxes to help pay for military expenses, many people being killed in battle, and strain on trade options with the muslims. For the Muslims, there were many positive effects from the crusades, but there were also negatives that weakened them just like the Christians. Some negative effects were losing some land in the Iberian Peninsula which is located in modern Spain and Portugal, losing money for military expenses, and many lost their lives in battle. Some positives for the Muslims were them adopting a private army, adapting their combat styles and getting new weapons, and using some earned money to build new mosques and religious schools. For Jewish people, there weren't any real positive effects from the crusades. Jewish people encountered many of their people being brutally massacred, hate crimes being committed against them, Anti Semitism, (Prejudice against all Jewish people,) being developed, Synogogues, (houses of worship,) and holy books being destroyed, many being relocated to Eastern Europe, and segregation being developed against them. Whichever way you look at it, there were both positive and negative effects from the Crusades.

I think that the crusades had a negative and positive effect on the world. A positive effect that the crusades was the trading between the Muslims and Christians. They began trading spices, clothes and food which brought new culture back to Europe and made the Muslims very rich. Another positive thing for the Muslims was the army tactics they learned from the Europeans like having a permanant army.Also there were a lot of negative impacts the crusade. A negative effect the crusades had on the Christans was they lost a lot of soldiers in the war which greatly weakened them. I think that the Crusades were considered successful failures. This means that they completed their job, but then later on failed it. This is because they conquered all of the holy land (Palestine,)but then all the soldiers went home once they won. All they wanted to do was capture the holy land. I also think they were a successful failure because they helped Alexis I against the Seljuk Turks, but then lost it as well. The Europeans learned alot from their Muslim enemies. This was including Arab art, architecture, mathematics, and medicines. Another reason why they were a successful failure was because they lost Edessa in 1144 B.C. They failed to recapture it.

The crusades had many effect on the Christians Muslims and Jews, both negative and posssitive for the Christians and Muslims but only negative for the Jews. I think the Crusades had both a positive and negative effect on the world. In our History Alive textbooks it says that European merchants became very wealthy by trading new goods they discovered. It also said that Christians were taxed heavily. So the crusades had both a positive and negative effect on the Christians. On a site called Effects of the Crusades it explains how thousands of knights had to sell their land in order to raise money to go crusading. I think this is a negative effect because if a knight survived the crusade and wanted to go back home, they wouldn't be able to because they sold their land. On a different website called The Crusades it says how the crusades influenced voyages to discover. I think that the crusades made both a postitve impact and a negative impact on history.
One way that they were good is that it changed the political system from fuedalism to monarchy. This would take care of a lot of problems, but it could also make more problems depending on how the monarch decided to rule their kingdom. Another reason that they made a postitive impact is because it would change the economic system from "self supply" to trading. That would help a lot because if one farmers crops didn't grow right, a whole kingdom could run into problems, but with trade, people could get their food from traders. It also would help them form alliances with people that they were trading with, which made them safer because they had more people on their side. One more way that the crusades were a positive impact was social structure. Before the crusades, the social structures were very organized and the social class that you were going to be in your life depended on what family you were born into. If you were born into a peasent family, you would be a peasent your whole life. You could be richer than the king and you would still have to be a peasent. After the crusades, people were able to be in a class called "middle class" which means that peasents and surfs would be able to have a chance to make money and have a good life instead of working in the feilds all day. They could become a trader and get rich to have a much better life than they would have if the crusaders hadn't come back with the idea of this "middle class".
The negative impacts had to do with the same things as the positive ones. The first negative impact would also be political system because if the king made bad decisions, and noone could stop him because he was the only one who could make the decisions, they could put the kingdom or empire at risk. The other issue would be the economic system because they would have to be dealing with people from all different countries, and they would never know when some of these ships were going to attack.
I think that even with some of those risks, the positive impacts would outweigh the negative impacts that the crusades made.
I believe that the Crusades in general was a failure. Although, the first Crusade did not result in a failure. If you look at what the objective was of the crusaders, they fulfilled that objective. Their objective was to go aid Alexius 1 of Byzantine from the invading Seljuk Turks and to to capture the Holy Land. (Palestine) But the rest of the Crusades did indeed end in a failure. They lost Jerusalem in the 3rd Crusade. They lost Edessa in the 2nd crusade and failed to recapture it, a large German army was beaten badley in Anatolia, in the childrens crusade, many children children were killed, and lastly the byzantine empire eventually fell. So I believe that the Crusades resulted in a failure.

There were negative impacts aswell. The Jews where tormented, beaten, enslaves, and murdered durring the crusades. They were forced out of their land and forced tolive in ghettos, bad nieghborhoods. Muslims gained new military ideas aswell. The gained the idea of the sationary military. The found the the holy city would almost constantly be under attack so they needed a military to constantly be protecting it. The final impact i found was a negative one. An un-coutable number of people where murdered durring the crusades. Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, all slaughtered because of this war. I found this to be the negative impact that evens out all the good impacts.

I think that the crusade were a failure to peoples lifes and a sucess for peoples culture and for thw society. It was a sucess for the christians because fuedlism ended and they got in contact with more cultures having new material such as new foods( melons), new cloth (muslin), new spices ( pepper) and there trade grew from that. It was sucessful for the muslims because they became rich from trade and they were unfied as one , also they learned of new weapons and got a new permanent army. unforunetlly the jewish people had no postive things about the crusades and just resulted in them getting persecuted, relocated to eastern europe and the "ghetto". I think that the crusades had both positve and negative effects. One of the positive effects of the crusades was the medical advances. Some other positive effects that the crusades had on the people were they learned how to build better ships, and how to use a compass. The crusades also helped trade. People got more luxury spices such as sugar, spices, silk, etc. Another positive effect of the crusades is that the crusades helped break down feudalism. Now although there were many positive effects of crusades, there were also many negative effects. One negative effect of the crusades was that many people died. I think the crusades had both a positive and negative affeect on the world today. This is because I am looking at it from the perspective of all three religions. Christians have a positive affect because they had the outcome of the Holy Land for the Christians. However the muslims recapture it. For muslims it was unsuccessful because they were pushed out of the holy Land however they learned new fighting tactics in war. they then regained the holy land soon after the crusades. For Jewish people its mostly negative because most of them died in massacres. They never got the Holy Land because they lost most of their men in battles and massacres. I agree with Quinn. The crusades had a positive and negative impact. Trading improved, which is a good thing, because everyone can get the stuff they need. But the king is now more powerful, and if he makes a bad decision, an important decision, it could effect the whole kingdom badly.
No, I do not think that the crusades should have taken place because many crusades were unsuccessful.
1. There were many illness that lead to death during the crusade. There was a lack of water, and many got sick for drinking dirty and unhealthy water.
2. Richard teh lionheart, who lead the third crusade, was not the best leader. For one thing, he didn't stop his men from making fun of Leopold, was always, drunk, and he betrayed Leopold.
3. During the crusades, much of the land in Jerusleum, the holy land, was destroyed. This is a negative impact, because all the houses, buildings, and public works will be destroyed.
4. Both the christians, and the Musliums, were prejudist against the Jews. They made the Jews live in segregation in houses cakked ghettos, and they could not hold public office. This is obviosley unfair.
5. Another bad thing about the crusades, was that the king got more power. This ended feudalism, and when he got more power, he raised taxes. This is unfair that he got all the power, and that he got to raise the taxes just because he felt like it.
All in all, the crusades were unsuccessful and it would have been better without the crusades ever happening.

The Crusades had a lasting effect on the worls. Were they a failure or success? I think they were a failure because the Christians walked all the way to the Holy Land defeated the Muslims then the Muslims built a stronger army went back to the Holy Land and defeated the Christians and won back the Holy Land. I also think that the crusades were a failure because the Christians lost a lot of money and a ton of people died in the crusades.
The crusades were a failure, because, the Christians only won one of the crusades. They only took Jerusalem once, and were driven out of the Holy Land. The only real benefit was cultural change and the taking of Spain. The Christians slaughtered Jews and Muslims, and only made the Muslims unify, causing their own downfall. Pope Urban the second was responsible for the first crusade, in assisting Emporer Alexus of Constantinople. To drive the Muslims back and take Jerusalem. They were successful, and slaughtered any resistance as seeing as the Muslims were not united and scattered across the land. The Christians were eventually forced to give up during the second and thrid Crusades. And thus, an overall loss as many died and it was very costly. For the Muslims it was an overall success, seeing as they united to rally agaisnt the Christians. They did not benefit culturally but mostly on the military scale. Seeing as theypicked up new weapons and strategies. And for the Jewish people it was a complete failure, they were massacured and slaughtered. Driven to Eastern Europe and banned from Spain. Overall the Crusades had a lasting effect on the world, for all cultures.

In the first crusade the Christians won the Holy Land so they won the first crusade. In the second crusade the
Muslims won and got back the Holy Land. In the third crusade they Christians once again attempted to win back the Holy Land but they failed. then in the children's crusade Christian children from Germany and France tried to win the Holy Land but most got killed or sold into slavery so the Christians once again failed. Last but not least the Christians tried one more time to win back the Holy Land in the reqonquista but they failed badly. So they stopped trying forever. overall the crusades were a big fat failier.

I think that the crusades had both a positive and negative effect on the Christians, Muslims, and the Jewish people. The Christians got a lot out of the crusades because they got new foods, cloths, and spices from trade. But there were also a lot of negative affects on the Christians because there were so many people killed from disease, battle, and the long journey. The Muslims actually admired the Christian warrior’s courage but they considered the Christians rash and uncultured barbarians. The Muslims won five out of the 6 crusades but they lost a lot of land and a lot of people were killed. A positive of the Muslims is that they got rich from trade and they learned about all sorts of new weapons. The Jewish people got persecuted and killed, and soon they relocated to Eastern Europe. Taxes were also created to fund for the crusades. And while the Christians were trying to take a western route Christopher Columbus discovered America, but he was trying to found Jerusalem. The crusades were a time of romance.

The Crusades were a good thing for the Christians. The only negative for them was that a lot of them died. They gained many goods and money. Also it helped them get more trade. The Crusades were not good for the Muslims or Jews. Especially the Jews. The Muslims losses and gains were about equal. However, prejudice began against the Jews and they were masacered. So this shows the Crusades were both a success and a failure. So many people died, from heat, disease and battles. Also many things were destroyed. However, wealth and knowlege was spread helping the world advance more quickly which was a big posative.

I believe that the crusades were a failure.
The first crusade in 1099,Jerusalem surrendered. The christians sold the survivors into slavery.
In 1144 Christians started the second crusade. That crusade ended in failure. Then there was a second army from France who tried to beat back but that also ended in failure and it ended the second crusade.
In the 1180's the loss of Jerusalem shocked Europeas and sparked the third crusade.
King Richard fought his way toward Jerusalem, but his army was not strong enough. In 1192 the two leaders signed a peace treaty.
Crusades then continued for another 100 years. In that time crusades successed in recapturig Jerusalem. Muslims, meanwhile, were gaining back the lad the crusaders had taken. In 1291 the victory ended some 200 years of christian kingdoms in the Holy Land.

The crusades have had a lasting effect on the world, but was it a good one? I would say that it wasn't. The christians lost a lot of money. Also, the lost alot of men in battle, from disease, and travel. For the jews, it was worse. They were violently persecuted, tourted to execpt christianity, murdered, and forced to move away from their land to eastern Europe and forced to live in places called "Ghettos". And for muslims, they where just slaughtered on sight.

I think that the crusades were a failure. This is because thousands of people lost their lives, and they didn't achieve anything. The Holy Land still belonged to the Muslims. Also, Jewish people had a lot of prejudice against them after the Crusades. They were tortured and sometimes even killed because of their religion. The Christians also weakened after the crusades because their government system of feudalism was brought to an end. When the knights and nobles went to fight, the Monarchs gained power. I think the crusades were an overall success. One way the crusades succeeded was economically. They encouraged trade and many merchants were able to earn a large profit. The crusades also led to further success in discovering land, as Christopher Columbus (a Christian) discovered America. The Christians also founded states in Palestine and Syria. Advancement in medicine was another helpful result. Based on what the crusaders saw in their opponents such as the Arabs and Persians, they were able to use this new knowledge and create medicines they could use in their culture. Another example of success during the crusades was the bounding of armies. In the Islamic religion, this fighting unified and strengthened their army, good for future fighting. Muslims, Christians and Jews all benefited and were effected greatly by the successful crusades.

I think the crusades were a succses ans a failer. It was a succses for the muslims, but a failer for the christions and all of the innocent people that died in the battle. I belive it was a succes for the muslims be cause they won seven out of the eight crusades. The only crusade that they lost was the first one. Also the crusades were a failer because the christans who fought for that land in eight crusades only came out witha win the first time. I think overall the crusaeds had a negative and positive effect. One reason its a negative effect is because during the childrens crusade many of the children either got lost, killed, or sold into slavery. I do not think the crusades were a positive impact. After all of the fighting and lives lost nothing was accomplished. Everything they did was undone because now all religons are equal in our society. After all of the battles has been fought most people were left with nothing and couldnt live a normal life. But now no one is discriminated because of there religon. So everythnig that was done was undone. Also, people were treated poorly. I think that the crusades were both positive and negative. A reason that the crusades were a positive thing is the advance in medicine. The knights saw new techniques in their Arab and Persian opponents and brought these advances back to Western Europe. Another reason why the crusades had a positive affect is the trade expansion and diversity. Christians discovered many new spices, fruits, vegetables, silk and cotton during the crusades. They increased the diversity of trade and made efforts to buy things from far away places with recourses that their surroundings could not provide. This also caused European traders to expand their buisiness to Asia. One last reason why they were positive is, the gain of a steady army. Muslims learned of creating a loyal army that would always be ready to fight for them, no matter what. They came up with this idea because another opposing group had this and gave them an advantage. A reason why the crusades were a negative thing was the extreme amount of anti-semitism against Jews. Jewish people were extremely discriminated against during this time and were forced out of England and France in the 1200's. Also, they were forced to live in places called "ghettos" that were secluded areas away from the rest of the town or city. Jews were also beaten and tortured to convert to Chrisitanity. One last reason why the crusades were a negative thing is the murders and deaths. There was an estimated 20,000 men killed just in battle alone. Many other men, woman AND children died from the long travel and diseases spread around. In closing, I believe the crusades had many negative and positive effects on the medieval world.

I agree with Erik's opinion towards the crusades. I agree with him because they did connect the empires, unifying armies and strengthening them. Also, the crusaders were able to bring back a variety of "foriegn" foods that were then used in the cultures. Overall, I agree with everything Erik said.

The Christians way of life was the main thing affected by the crusades. Contact with the eastern culture had taught them about new types of food like melons, clothing like muslin and spices such as pepper. But also, because of the crusades, the King began to raise funds for future crusades and this made for a tough economy. The Muslims didn't get as many benifits from the crusades as the Christians. They won every crusade after the first one which from they gained exposure to new weapons. But they had many failures along the way. Much of muslim property was destroyed by crusaders. The Jews had the worst of it. They Jews had no successes so they did not gain anything. By the end of the crusades, Jews couldn't hold public office and they were forced to live in the ghetto. Overall, because of the trade growth, new weapons, new milatary strategies, and economic profits, the crusades did have a positive effect on the Christian and Muslim religions but not on the Jewish religion.

The crusaders were not successful. This is because they had new areas in trade so they could get new supplies for battle. Next, they were part of an early European expansion. I think that the crusades had a mainly negitive effect on the world but brought a few good things. One example is that there was a large death toll. Many Muslims, Christains and Jews died fighting or as a result of fighting. We don't have an actual number though because they didnt keep records of the dead. Another negitive thing about the crusades is that the Jewish were treated wrongly. This was called anti-Semitism. In France and England, Jews were tourtured until they converted to christianity. Also Jews were forced to move to ghettos. Ghettos are poor towwns were the Jews were forced to move to. The final negitive effect of the crusades was that Muslim land was destroyed. All the fighting was on muslim lands so it was destroyed by the warfare. Cities like Jerusalem were looted and destroyed. The crusades had a negitive efffect on the world.
Good things did come out of the crusades though. Trade began to florish with the East. THe crusaders brought "spoils of the east" back to Europe. This created new trade and had Europe make more money. The other good effect on the world the crusades has was that it broke down fuedalism. Because the nobles were fighting, theri land went to the king giving him more power. This created a new system, Monarchy and helped make the system more fair. The crusades were bad and good.

The lasting effects of the crusades were both good and bad. For the poor or the wealthly, they could get more land due to most of the nobles leaving their estates and creating new ones. The church had gained in power for the chrisitians. Before most of the knights were uneducated, but they started to use patterns and designs to identify themselves. The Jewish people had all negative outcomes for the crusades. They lost most of their land, they had to live in compact lands called ghettos, and most of them were massacred. Another good thing for the christians was that feudalism fell apart when the nobles left. Western Europe had developed an interest in trade after the crusade. A group of monks were worried about the moral and organization of the church so they had the Cluniac Reform movement. Most muslims were slaughtered when the christians first conquered Jerusalem. This drastically effected the muslim population. The muslims adopted military ideas from the christians while the christians learned to appreciate the muslims more. The Jews just lost all together. There are both posetive and negative effects from the crusades. Hundreds of thousands of people perished when the Christians marched to the holy land. Only once were they able to capture the holy lands. Other than that all other attempts to regain the holy land. This is their overwhelming negative effect. There were posetive effects as well though. Throughout the crusades, even though it was forbiden, trade began to flourish between the muslims and the christians. Europe found out of "new" items to trade such as; silk, spices, sugar, art, and literature. Also throughout the crusades the Christian's view of the muslims improved. The men were seen as chivilrous warriors and kind figures, while the women were viewed as beautiful and intuitive. Though their attempt to regain the holy land was a failure, their litterature, art, economy, and general way of living improved greatly.

The effects the Crusades had on the world were both positive and negative, but the positive impacts influenced the majority of the population in many ways. For example, they increased the wealth of the Church, as merchants were earning a lot of money from trading. The money was then put towards building new mosques and religious schools. Also, trade increased all throughout the Holy Land. As it was spreading and becoming much more popular, Europeans began obtaining rarer, more expensive items that they had never thad before. Like, they started getting new spices, melons, apricots, sesame seeds, carob beans, and so much more that they never would have gotten if it wasn't for the crusades. The crusades also allowed people to go on an adventure and break the boring habits of their everyday life. the crusades let people get closer to God and have fun at the same time. Another positive effect the Crusades had on the world was advances in medicine. Knights who fought Arabs and Persians took note of their techniques for making people healthier. They then brought those techniques back to Western Europe in order for more people to benefit from these unknown healing techniques. Advancements in war occured too. The more they fought, the more practice they got, and the more exposure they got to see other strategies from opponents. The Muslims even developed new weapons and a permanent army. If it wasn't for the Crusades, there would've been so many things we never would've learned.

I think the crusades were a complete and utter failure but there is one positive thing. ONe reason for this is that tons and tons of people were unnecisarily killed. Anything that has a lot of uneccarasy deaths is usally a failure. My next reason is that it gave a bad look for christianity. He told that if you turned christian and sacrificed your life you would go to heaven. That is just cruel to teach people that and convert them for that reason. My third reason is that many children were killed and the pop told them they wouldnt be killed but protected by god which is wrong and misleading. My fourth reason is that the jews were kicked out for frakly, no reason. They killed and tortured many jews just to take over the hold land. There is one reason that it is positive and that is the great impct on the economy. The christains gained many things like furs, spices, foods, etc. and gained many things for trading. This brought there cultural undrstanding and economy way up.

The crusades had different impacts on different groups. Whether the impacts were good or not depended on you religeon and ethnicity. Basicly if you were a Jew the affects of the crusades for you weren't good. Jews were persucuted and killed for their religeon. They were mostly killed because the would not convert to Christianity. Also when Christians captured a city they usually killed everyone in it. The Jews also suffered great losses of religeous text and sites. During and after the crusades predejuce against Jews began to grow. Jews were seragated from others and forced to live in small comunities called ghettos. These areas were normally considered an undisirable place to live and were often crowded and disease ridden.
There are many opinions on the crusades, but mine is that it was mostly bad. Yes, there were good things to come from the crusades. Culture was defenitly spread across Europe as a result of the Crusades. And trade goods and knowledge also traveled back and forth during these periods. But when you take a look at the total number of Muslim, Christian, and Jewish deaths over these two centuries of chaos in Europe, your opinion might change. Feudalism declined following the crusades. At first glance, this is great. No slaves, no greedy kings; everything is more fair. But under feudalism, there was order. Without it, the common town developed, a place filled with disease, trash, and poor living conditions.
At the end of the first crusades, the Christians were victorious. Most went home, some stayed. They had killed thousands of Jews and Muslims, and many of their own had died. But of course, this was a religious fight, and they couldn't let it go. It was decided that another crusade was necessary. This one failed, mainly because the Muslims had wised up and formed together. Even after this failure, a third crusade was launched. This, again, was unsuccessful. Five more crusades began and were lost, one of them even exploiting children as a war mechanism.
As a result of the Crusades, Jews were kicked out of their holy land. This would be bad enough, but where they were sent was no comparison to Jerusalem. Most Jewish people, who escaped torture and persecution, ended up in the slums. Hundreds of years later, the Jews still have quarrels with the people who slaughtered their ancestors. The battle for Jerusalem rages on today, and the Crusades are what started it.

I think that the crusades had both a positive and negative impact on the world. The crusades were bad in some ways because they were killed by the Muslims, Jews, and Christians. Also the Muslims had their lands destroyed, Christians died because of travel, battle, and disease. In my opinion I think that the Christians had it easier then anyone else. Even though many were killed they came in contact with new foods, cloths, spices, and trade grew for new objects. They also ended fuedalism and their kings were more powerful. The negative outcomes of the Christians is their economy and death. Muslims had some positive outcomes too such as new weapons and becoming rich from trade. From their weapons they could adopt a new army. They lost the Iberian Peninsula because of the Crusades. I personally believe that the Jews had it the worst though. They were killed and captured as slaves. They also had to recolate to Eastern Europe and live in a crowded area which they called the "ghetto". I think the Crusades had an overall positive effect. First, they increased trade. When the Christians travled, they picked up different things on their route. When they returned, they still wanted those materials, so they would trade for them. Second, the crusades ended feudalism. This gave the people a little more freedom, and they didn't get stuck in certain social classes. Another effect was that after the Crusades, the survivors built small kingdoms for themselves. This was good because it helped to spread out the people so areas were not as crowded. Also, the Crusades unified Muslims. They came together to fight, and even after it ended, they remained close. Lastly, the end result allowed people of all religions to pass through the Holy Land without getting killed. Yes the crusades were very helpful today they have positivlly effected us in many ways. First, the trade was advanced from the crusades because they ran into people of other cultures and they got new items to trade with from this other culture. Next, the Christans regained the holy land from the crusades and I see this as a good thing because i am a christan myself. Third of all my religion of christan grew in other lpaces. After the crusades places like Spain would make people change to be christans or you had to leave the area and if you didn't you would be punished. The fourth reason why the crusades heled was how muslims moved to the Eastern sea. Sense they did this now the muslims are mostly where they are today. Most muslims live in the midddle east and because of them moving before so long ago they live where they do now. The final reason why the crusades were good is that the christans made a peace treaty with muslims so now there is no fighting between races and there will not be a crusade anytime soon between these two religions because of this peace treaty. My opinion is that the Crusades were successful and were failures. The Crusades were a success for the Muslims because they eventually kept their land and gained more world knowledge, like of Western Europe. Also, they were united under Salah al-Din because of the Crusades, and they learned of new military tactics. It was a failure for Muslims because many Muslims were killed. The Jewish people had a completely bad outcome. They were massacred and were forced to move from West Europe to East Europe. The Germans had fought against pagans in East Europe, so World War Two was caused by Germans thinking that East Europe was still rightfully theirs. The Christians had both positive and negative outcomes. Negative outcomes were that many were wounded, sick, or killed. It was also bad because they failed in controlling Jerusalem and holding off the Muslims from Constantinople long-term. Good outcomes were learning new banking ideas, like investments and taxes. Feudalism ended, which helped bring us to where we are today. Feudalism prevented thinking like switching social classes and having kids go to school. People would also learn to self support themselves without Feudalism controlling them. Melons, muslin, and pepper was introduced, expanding the culture. Trade flourished with the Middle East. Spain was conquered, the Americas found as an alternate route to Jerusalem, and the Ancient Greek's knowledge was passed to them. The Christians were also allowed back into Jerusalem again, so they could once again go on pilgrimages.

The crusades were a good thing for the world at the time. The main reason for the crusades were because when the christians were going on a pilgrimages to the holy land they were killed and stolen from. The crusades ended up making pilgrimages safe for the Christians. Also, both the christians and muslims got new trading partners. Christians got muslin (clothe), melon (fruit), and spices. Muslims learned new military ideas such as keeping a perminate army because of so many attacks on their cities. Also, they got new weapon technologies. Muslims also joined together as one, which in the end was a huge accomplishments for the muslims.

I agree that it was bad and a failure. I really like your supporting evidence, especially about Feudalism. One thing, you said that there weren't slaves, but there were slaves in Feudalism, like serfs.
The Crusades were a failure because the European Christians who launched them did not accomplish their goal of captureing and holding onto Jerusalem.
The Crusades though did much bad thet did have some positive effect and were a success and failure. They helped end fuedalism and improve th economy with trade taxes. An other positive is that it helped end fuedalsim. Also, at the end of the third crusade they made a treaty which helped learn comprimise which government use today all the time. Many many people died fighting over a land that could have been shared, but of course taht wasn't an option. The christians even sent inocent children to fight a batlle that not only they knew they would lose, but one that most of they kids never even reached. Also, it took eight crusades for the fighting to finally end. All three Muslims, Christians, and Jews wanted power over Jeruslaem and no one really could come to peace with it unless they were the ones who had it.

I think the crusades had both a positive and negative effect on the world. For the Christians, things such as power, the Church, and the economy were effected. Power was shifted so that Kings and the people began to have a bigger say in politics. The Church became very wealthy and people began to have more enthusiasm in religion. For Jews, there were many negative effects. A lot of Jews were persecuted and robbed. Their houses were destroyed and looted before they could do anything about it. Many Jews moved to live in ghettos. They were forced to relocate to Eastern Europe. Riots broke out and many Jews died. The effects for Jews were mostly negative. Overall, I think that the effects balance out so that the result of Crusades was successful for having the few positive effects they did have on the world.

My opinion was than the crusades had a positive impact on the Christians, Muslims, and Jews. Trade became greater after the crusades ended. A couple of crusaders managed to create kingdoms in the Holy land. They traded with Europe, sending goods to Europe and importing materials. Feudalism started to weaken due to the crusades. Many nobles and knights went to fight and lost their lives, forcing the king to take their land. People also learned new things about other cultures and found new foods and goods.

The crusades were a failure when thinking about everything. They had both positive and negative effects. Many people from all three major religions (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism) died and suffered. Jews were persecuted and hurt. Christians died from starvation, disease, and fighting. Muslims died trying to defend their land. The purpose of the Crusades was to take back the Holy Land from the Muslim people. All three religions wanted the Holy Land and more specifically, Jerusalem. The Christians were successful in their First Crusade in taking over Jerusalem but then later lost control of the city to the Muslims again. They were not successful in any of the preceding seven crusades and ended up signing a peace treaty that allowed the Christians to travel to the Holy Land without being hurt while having the land still belonging to the Muslims. The good part of the Crusades was the spreading of cultures to new places. This spread later lead to great prosperity to what is present day Middle Eastern territory through trade. Goods traded included things not found in Eastern Europe such as melons, apricots, and pepper, as well as new cloths such as muslin. There seemed to be no or few positives for the Jewish people because they were attacked in racial and abusive ways and were forced to live in the ghettos. The Muslims gained because they got new weapons, and military strategies. Overall, the crusades were a failure because their goal was not accomplished and everybody suffered.

The crusades affected everyone differently, in either a positive or negative way. The main reason why the crusades had a negative aspect on everybody was that a lot of people died in them including Christians, Muslims, and Jewish people. Not only were people killed in war, but people also died on the journey of starvation and disease. I think that the Jewish people were affected worst by the crusades because some of them were also taken as slaves, and were also forced to live in “ghetto”, which are very crowded neighborhoods containing poverty. Not only that, put a lot of people in Europe were anit-Jewish. However, the crusades did not affect the Christians and Muslims as bad as the Jewish people. Even though Europe had exposed to the Islamic culture of medicine, science, art, and architecture due to the Crusades more people were exposed and learned about the Islamic culture. I think that the crusades were a success and a failure all in one. After the third crusade christens and the Muslims signed a the piece treaty. Trade grew dramatically for both the Muslims and the christens they both gave each there different types of the from to different sides of the world like different spices cloths, and foods that they have never. One bad thing that has accrued from the Crusade which wasn’t necessarily a good thing was many people died. I disagree with you Liam. This is because I think that at the time there was a negative impact. It left many people dead and many others injured. It was not until many years afterwords that the trade effects went into place and the loss of people was overwhelming.
I think the crusades had negative and positive effects. One reason they were good was because christians brought back new food, clothing and spices to Europe. Another reason is the crusaders changed society, the monarchs grew more powerful as nobles and knights left home to fight in the Middle East. For muslims, the impact of the crusades was not good because a lot lost their lives in battles and massacres. The crusaders also destroyed muslim property. Another reason that the crusaders had a negative effect was because, as crusaders crossed Northern France and Germany, they murdered whole communities of Jewish people. The crusades impacted the world in many positive and negative ways. First of all, there were negative impacts because there were many people killed, including Christians, Muslims, and Jews. Christians learned about new cultures during the crusades, and got new types of spices, cloth, and foods. The Christian church became more wealthy and powerful after the crusades. However, many taxes were raised because they needed money in order to pay for supplies. The Christians only had temporary control over the holy land. The Muslims were also influenced by the crusades. On the plus side, Muslims became rich from trade and learned about new weapons, which caused them to develop permanent army. On the other hand, the Muslims lost some land, including the Iberian Peninsula. There weren’t many positive effects on the Jewish people from the crusades. For example, the Jewish people were persectuted. Others were killed or sold into slavery. Also, they relocated to Eastern Europe, and others were forced to live in the "ghetto." All in all, there were many people effected by the crusades.

I agree with Mike. There were many positive effects on the world to day by the crusades. You made many good points about how the Christians were effected. However, I thought that there were negative effects on the world as well as positive. For example, many people died. Overall, good job Mike.
I agree with Jun. He made a good point when he said that the religion of the person would determine what kind of an impact there would be. I also liked that he explained how the crusades impacted each individual religion, not just one general statement.

I also agree with Mellisa Duffy. The crusades affected different people differnetly. Many people were killed especially Jews and the Christians benefited by learning Europeanion stuff and they improved and developed trading.

I agree with erik because trade was effected by the crusades. When people came from other places they brought goodsfrom their land. People paid lots of money for these new items. So this effected the economy and trade.
The Crusades have lasted for a long period of time and it had a lot of negative and positive impacts. The Crusades had gone to Jerusalem to take back control of the Holy Land. They had a lot of attempts but there goal was never reached. Also, another reason why they had negative impacts was because the Byzantine Empire was now controlled by the Turks after the Crusades. A positive impact they had was that armies found better ways to build better ships and to create maps better. Businessman had developed better banking methods to finance the large military enterprises. The Christians had a positive impact on the Crusades. This was because they got new goods from trading. This includes new foods, clothes, and spices. Also, Monarchs had gained more power since the Nobles and King went to fight in the war. Muslims got new weapons and new standing armies. They also got a lot of money from their trading and were able to afford new buildings such as mosques and schools. Jews however had a lot of negative impacts. Jews had a lot of violent persecutions. They were also forced to move away into the “ghetto” land. Also, because of them, riots and massacres had broken out. Jews had gotten kicked out by England and Spain. I think that there were more negative impacts on the crusade than positive.

I agree with you about the crusades being negitive and unnecisary. You had great evidence to back up your theory.
I think the crusades were both a success and a failure. In the aspects of trade, religious power, and exploration and discovery, the crusades were a success. Trade improved between Muslims and Christians. While on the crusades, people would trade and make trading contacts that would be useful for themselves as well as future generations of traders in their community. Also, the crusades united people of similar religions. Like the Muslims who became united under the power of Saladin. Saladin was a great Islamic ruler that united the Muslims to fight off the Christians and they won. The Christians were united to help the Pope and save their fellow “brothers” of the Byzantine Empire and the Eastern Orthodox religion. Therefore each religion became more tight knit and friendly. Christopher Columbus, discoverer of our home land of “the Americas”, found the Americas on his way to the Holy Lands. He was trying to get there by going around the long way because the Muslims had blocked the traditional paths of entering. In the ways of violence, death, wealth, and civilization, crusades were a failure and only made things worse. The Crusades only caused more violence to arise. Younger and younger people were sent off to fight and those that survived would have been exposed to violence. Many deaths had been lost in the Crusades. Not only Christians and Muslims were killed but Jews as well. Christians and Muslims lives were clearly lost during the actual crusades. But after the crusades, Jews were persecuted by being forced to move, killed and other horrible things. Wealth was decreasing as the amount of money needed for these Crusades increased. Soon taxes were put in place and even the wealthiest of people were losing their wealth. The Byzantine Empire was taken over by the Turks as a result of the imposing Crusades on their territory. In effect, the Crusades were neither a success nor a failure in my opinion.

I agree with Jessica. The Christians benifitted the most from the Crusades where trade definitely increased, and they were exposed to rarer foods that they wouldn't have ever eaten if it wasn't for the crusades.
Erik, I agree with you. You wrote about a lot of the same things that I did but just with a different vantage point. Your spelling and grammer could be a little better, but other than that I thought your paragraph was very good.
I agree with Brianna that the crusades goal was never met. Their purpose was to take the holy land and protect the empire from the Seljuk Turks. The won the holy land, but lost it in the second crusade. The Seljuk Turks overpowered the crusaders easily.

I think the crusades had a positive lasting effect on the world and three relegions groups. It was positive on Christians because they gained better culture. For example, they got better clothing, new spices like pepper, and food. It was positive on the Muslims because they picked up on new military skills that are still in use today. After that, they won more battles. It was negative on Jewish people because they were prosecuted wrongly, and forced to move to Eastern Europe and live in the ghetto, where they were beaten and tortured. It could also be looked upon as negative because all the religions lost people in the war and many survivors were injured.

The affect of the crusades on Muslims was not as devastating as it was on the jews.

Like the others though they also lost quite some men (and children), but what are some lives to pay for spices and food?! The crusades were a failure. In the crusades, several million people died which is a tremendous loss. The Byzantine, once a strong empire, was fundamentally weakened due to the crusades. Jews were persecuted even though they did not take an active role in the crusades. To this day Muslims have been highly affected by the crusades. They have had a sense of needing to keep their culture consistent and not let it be altered by other cultures. Due to this, Muslim culture has not been able to modernize and change with the ages.

The Crusades had a positive and a negative impact on history. For the Jews, the impact was very negative. In the 14th and 15th centuries, Jews were confined to "ghettos". They were walled in and kept apart from the rest of the city. In Europe in the 1900s, during World War II, 1,000 ghettos were established by the Nazis all over Poland and the Soviet Union alone. They were built to segregate Jews from the rest of the community, as well as to help them implement their plan to wipe out the entire Jewish populaion in Europe. The violence and prejudice toward Jews during the Crusades probably led toward the slaughter of thousands of Jews during the Holocaust.
For European Christians, the impact was much less negative. Richard the Lionheart signed a peace treaty to allow pilgrims access to Jerusalem. Merchants and traders gained new commodities to trade, like muslin cloth, exotic spices, and new foods, like melons, that Europeans couldn't grow in Europe. The Crusades also improved European Christian views of Muslims. Many scholars also think that Christopher Columbus was trying to find an easier way to get to the Holy Land, but he found America instead. Also, taxation, which was created to raise money for the Crusades, was the main reason that the British colonies in America decided to create their own country. The American Revolution also led to countries in Latin America starting their own revolutions.
For Middle Eastern Muslims, the Crusades also had a more positive impact. They gained new military tactics, like a standing, or constant, army. Also, they got to keep control of Jerusalem, and they were reunited under Saladin (Salah al-Din) to beat back the Christian invaders.

I agree somewhat with Kasey Cook. There are so many successes of the Crusades, but there are also many failures. However, I feel that they were both a success and a failure.
I agree with Linda. The crusades had both positive and negative effects. For the Christians, there were both good and bad effects. For Jews there were negative effects and for Muslims, there were many good effects. This shows how the Crusades had both a good and bad influence on the world overall.
The crusades were both good and bad. First of all Feudalism was ended thanks to the crusades. Since barons and knights had gone on the journey and sold their land to finance the crusades, they ended up losing their authority over others. Also, trade after the crusades was very good. Merchants gathered and brought new items to trade with one another causing a demand for the rare items. More and more new items were being traded such as the foods and cloth. However the economy was hurt slightly. To finance and continue to send more people to fight in the crusades it took a lot of money. Luckily, the merchant were able to keep their wealth by trading their rare in demand goods. Also, trade routes started to expand farther out. While doing so, merchants continued to find more new goods to bring back to trade. The crusade failed in that many people were killed and most of the lands were destroyed in battle. A positive outcome of the crusades however, was that the Americas were founded while Christopher Columbus was trying to reach Jerusalem using a western route. A positive outcome was that the Muslims, Christians and Jewish people had slightly changed their cultures by the end of the crusades. Europeans began writing more pieces of literature and becoming more literate. They also bathed more often and ate more Muslim foods. The crusades also impacted the way Christians feel about Muslims. Christians respected the Muslims more while the Muslims lost most of their respect towards the Christians. The crusades were also bad because many of those who felt threatened by a different religion converted or were killed. After the crusades the religious groups then had to find more people to make their religion stronger. Also, the Christians never even really captured their goal in winning back their Holy Land. They controlled it for a short period of time but never fully took it over. However everyone ended up being aloud free access to the Holy Lands in the end so it wasn’t all bad. I don’t think the crusades had all positive affects but I don’t think they were all negative either.

The crusades were helpful in meany ways.The main is that it spread culture to all of the groups.The Christians wer introduced to cottons,and fruts,and cloths,and spices.The Muslums got to learn to have a permanant army,and battle strategies,and got new wepon types.The Jews were persicuted,robbed,murderd,forced out of jobs,and relocated to ghettos.They eventualy had to leave thair homes and go to the muslum territory.I consider that a win because they got to leave and have more fredom than before.
